Mompati from Botswana to Ireland
Where did Mompati’s journey with us begin?
We first met Mompati in 2022.
I was tasked with sourcing highly skilled HGV OEM Dealer Trained Mechanics and Technicians for OEM Truck Dealerships. And in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, Mompati and I sat down for a chat.
I already knew that Mompati was working for the Botswana Scania Dealership, and that he was working both in the workshops and also tasked with remote work. Mompati was an expert in heavy truck recovery and was tasked with attending to breakdowns.
Mompati had worked for the Scania Dealership for over 12 years, and he was ready to seek new challenges outside of Botswana.
Australia, Canada or Ireland
Mompati and I met up a few times in person in person, I got to know him over that time and we discussed various options, we talked about Australian and Canada and also out of left field, Ireland.
Mompati was stunned to hear that regardless where he was going to decide to work, he was not going to be required to pay any fees or costs if he was recruited by Skilled Migration Group as we never charge any fees to workers.
One of Ireland’s Premier Renault Truck Dealerships
In 2023 an Irish Company gave us a call, they were struggling to source and hire the right HGV Technicians and asked could we possibly supply to them? Sure, no bother we said, so we took a trip to the West Coast of Ireland and met up with the owners and toured the workshops.
After chatting with the owners, they issued us an order on the spot, to recruit for them.
We don’t place online adverts or use social media to try and source the right candidates, we directly contact people and through word of mouth mechanics and technicians find us.
While I was in Ireland, after touring the Renualt Truck Dealership I was thinking about Mompati, and how he was suitable for these roles, and very quickly, once more I travelled to Botswana and met up with Mompati in person in Gaborone.
At our meeting in Gaborone, Mompati and I discussed what I had seen at the Irish Renualt Truck Dealership, and he was very interested to find out more and we set up an interview with one of the owners of the truck dealership and his manager.
The owner grilled Mompati about various aspects of the trade and about the quality he expected in his workshop, and before we knew it, Mompati was offered a contract to work in Ireland.
Pack Your Bags Mate, You’re Going To Ireland!
Mompati wanted us to state on his behalf that he never paid anything for his recruitment, processing of work permit, medicals, or flights, he was even provided with three months free accommodation upon his arrival in Ireland. He wants everyone to know that he never paid a cent in fees or costs.
Having been in Ireland now for close to 18 months, it’s safe to say that Mompati has a good understanding of what Irish life is like. And being in County Mayo, I’m guessing he knows what rain and cold weather is by now …
Yet, look at the smile on that face, rain, snow, ice, he don’t care, life is good in Ireland!
What’s It Like Working For One Of The Premier Renault Truck Dealerships in Ireland?
Anyone that knows the owners of that dealership knows that they don’t take any crap, if you want to work for them, you graft.
That’s no secret, do the job, don’t make a fuss, produce quality work.
It’s part what’s got that dealership to being one of Ireland’s premier Renualt Truck Dealerships.
Well, not only is Mompati still there – but the dealership selected him, from all the other mechanics and technicians, to attend training and become certified as a Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Tester for light vehicles, and now Mompati is able to conduct CVRT in Ireland.
Additonally he has been selected to attend further training at the Athlone Institute of Technology, where he will gain certification for CVRT for Heavy Commercial Vehicles.
Mompati, you earned their respect mate. You already had mine, but you earned respect from one of the toughest bosses in the industry, and that, right there, you should be very proud of.
Feedback from Mompati
I chatted with Mompati today, January 2025, he as always asked how I was and how my family was. Which is Mompati to a T, it’s not often he talks about himself. But I asked him, are you happy in Ireland? Yes, yes I am he said. He said his life had changed for the better and he wanted to say thank you to his employer in Ireland for taking a chance on him and he thanked Skilled Migration Group for the opportunity and he said he would be forever grateful for it.
Thanks Mompati, but I don’t think you need to thank anyone but you – you did the work, you gained the skills needed in Botswana and South Africa when working and training at Scania, and you held it all together on the other side of the world in a totally new environment and YOU MADE IT. I’m proud to have met you, got to know you and to be able to call you a friend, Dennis.
