William From Malawi To Australia
Where did William’s journey with us begin?
We first met William in 2022.
I was tasked by an Australian Company to recruit a number of highly skilled tradespeople for them.
And on the 28th of November 2022 in Lusaka, Zambia, Brent Diflo (Ex Australian Caterpillar Dealer Group Equipment Assembly Manager) and I met Big William…
We already knew that William had previously worked for the Malawi Caterpillar Dealer Barloworld for more than 12 years. And that he then changed teams and joined The Malawi Komatsu Dealer, where he worked for 10 years.
So we already knew that it was going to be an interesting chat with William – what we didn’t foresee was quite how much of a genuine nice guy William was, and the sheer volume of experience that he had.
My own personal thoughts about William at that meeting was “this guy has so much skill and demonstrated experience it’s going to be almost overwhelming for most people, and wherever he goes he is going to be a great addition to any team and a huge asset.
Something else that set William apart from other people we chatted with that day was his age – William was over 45 years old, which for most recruiters and Australian companies rules them out of being hired for Australia. Due to the cut off age for permanent residency in Australia being that an applicant must be under 45 on the day they apply for PR.
Well I can assure everyone reading this, with age comes experience and a cool head, and Skilled Migration Group Limited never rule anyone out based upon age. In fact, as William found out, we are well known for hiring older experienced workers.
A Job Offer From An Australian Company
After William left the meeting, Brent and I had a chat, and I said if William doesn’t get snapped up by the first employer we put him in front of, I’ll eat my hat and give this game away.
We arranged for the Australian Company to meet with William in person. And in December 2022 the Company met with William, Brent and I, and William and his future employer had a great chat.
There was never any question that William would be hired, and William got hired by an exceptional Australian Company, who didn’t care at all about William’s age – they knew what they were looking at, knew what William would bring to their company, and they knew there was no risk, just hire.
Life in Australia
William has taken to Australian life and work, like a duck to water. He has been an exceptional employee and has proved himself to be a loyal and proud member of the Australian Company’s workforce.
Fault finding in the pit at 2am, fixing Komatsu PC2000 excavators, William is THE person to go to.
He has made some good friends in Australia, both at work and outside of work, and he said he is very grateful to his Australian Employer for taking a chance on him.
Next Step – Bringing The Family To Australia!
Earlier this year, William got married and is about to finalise the visa process to bring his wife and family to Australia.
William said that there had been challenges along the way, but that his employer in Australia had been good to him. William confirmed that he never paid any recruitment fees or visa costs of any kind, he had no loans to repay and that his Australian employer was very supportive in helping to bring his family to Australia.
And William also had some kind words for the Skilled Migration Team:-
“Dennis your teams provide support and commitment to supporting this cause, and is is truly inspiring. It is because of contributions like yours that we are able to continue our work and make a meaningful difference. Your generosity is a testament to the values of compassion and community, and it does not go unnoticed.
Thank you once again for your invaluable support. Please know it is deeply appreciated to me and my family.
Thanks,”
William
