Busman’s holiday at the Ferrari Museum at Maranello just outside Modena, Italy.
It was a busman’s holiday for me early this week at the Ferrari Museum at Maranello just outside Modena, Italy.
I finished interviewing early that morning and I had some down time in a location that was just perfect for me.
What self respecting spannerspinner could turn down a visit to the Ferrari Museum when it was only 20 mins drive away..
I mean, please….
Well the quality of the work is just mind blowing and the engineering is on another planet.
Everyone, engine and car lover or not would like it here.
There is a display of truly incredible machines there, sleek, smooth and very rare.
It made me remember about a time I was interviewing with a 30 year veteran of an Australian Caterpillar engine rebuild facility. Peter from the Caterpillar dealership was talking to an engine specialist we were interviewing, about hp and Cat engines and tuning and how the sounds were like the engine talking to him, telling him what the engine wanted Pete to know.
Peter was so into it, his genuine love of Caterpillar engines simply could not be contained.
And Pete went on to get all excited and animated about when the really big Cat engines were on ‘his’ dyno and they ran them up to full test.
Ole Pete was all hands in the air, arms waving about, excitement shining out of his eyes and he turned and said to me “it’s like being at a rock concert for me, the whole buildings shaking, the volume, the heat” and he said, “it was to me, the sound of perfection”
Well Pete, if you’re reading this, they had F1 engines there of days gone by and they had engines they fired up and played tunes on them.
Peter, I think you’d love it there, absolutely love it.
There is no substitute for hp ..
