The occupation list for the 189 Skilled Independent visa
The occupation list for the points tested stream of the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) is the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). It is set out in the Migration (LIN 19/051: Specification of Occupations and Relevant Assessing Authorities) Instrument 2019 and contains 212 occupations. This page is based on the compilation of that instrument in force from 28 March 2026.
Each occupation has a relevant assessing authority, and a suitable skills assessment in the nominated occupation is required before points can be claimed through an Expression of Interest. Occupations on the MLTSSL are also eligible occupations for the subclass 190 and 491 visas.
